Here are just a few of our most iconic US sweets, cookies and cakes:

  • Jolly Ranchers. First created in 1949 by Bill and Dorothy Harmsen in Colorado, the Jolly Rancher Company was initially an ice cream and candy business. They later focused on candies, as they were easier to sell year-round. The name "Jolly Rancher" was chosen to evoke a friendly, western, and inviting image, reflecting the company’s Colorado roots.

The original flavours included grape, apple, and fire stix (a cinnamon flavour). Over the years, other flavours like cherry, watermelon, and blue raspberry became iconic staples.

Some discontinued flavours include lemon, peach, and sour flavours. Blue raspberry, introduced later, became one of the most popular. Nowadays, watermelon, green apple, and cherry remain fan favorites.

  • Twinkies. Twinkies were created in 1930 by James Dewar, a baker for the Continental Baking Company. He originally invented them as a way to use shortcake pans that were sitting idle during the offseason.

Did you know, the original Twinkies were filled with banana cream? During World War II, bananas were rationed, so the filling was changed to vanilla. It was clearly a good decision, since it remains the most popular flavour today. Contrary to the myth, Twinkies do not last forever. While they have a relatively long shelf life for baked goods, they typically last about 45 days when fresh. Don’t worry, when you order our American sweets you can be assured they’re fresh and in excellent condition.

  • Moon Pie. This treat famously appears in The Simpsons, when Jasper traps himself in Apu’s ice cream freezer in the hope of reaching the future. On emerging, he utters the immoral lines, ‘Moon pie! What a time to be alive’ when he mistakenly thinks he’s awoken years later. Although it might sound futuristic, Moon Pies were created in 1917 by the Chattanooga Bakery in Tennessee. A traveling salesman inspired the idea when he asked for a portable snack that could fit in a miner's lunch pail.

  • Razzles. A unique type of candy, Razzles double as a type of chewing gum! They start off as a fruit-flavored, powdery candy that you chew, and as you chew them, they transform into gum. This makes them a fun treat for people who enjoy both candy and gum in one experience.

First introduced in the 1960s, their slogan famously highlights their dual nature: "First it's a candy, then it's a gum!" They come in a variety of fruity flavors, such as raspberry, orange, lemon, and grape, often sold in mixed packs. They're popular for their nostalgic appeal, and their quirky candy-to-gum transformation has kept them a classic treat for decades!

  • Hershey’s Bars. Hershey's Milk Chocolate Bar was introduced in 1900 by Milton S. Hershey, who was inspired to make high-quality, affordable milk chocolate for the masses. Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar was one of the first mass-produced chocolate bars in the United States, making it accessible to average Americans for the first time. It is distinct from British chocolate: Hershey's has a slightly tangy taste, which is due to a process called controlled lipolysis. During production, milk is partially fermented, creating butyric acid, which gives the chocolate its signature taste.
