What are Jolly Ranchers?
The American favourite Jolly Rancher is a sweet hard candy, which comes in assorted bags with individually wrapped sweets (making them the perfect travelling companion candy for long car journeys). Defined by their juicy fruity flavours and made of amorphous solids, Jolly Rancher are shaped from highly concentrated sugar giving them a candied, glassy look.

Where did Jolly Rancher candies come from?
Currently made by The Hershey Company, Jolly Rancher are famous for their fruity hard candy, but over the years have also produced gummies, fruit chews, jelly beans, lollipops and more.
Given the name, ‘Jolly Rancher’, it may not surprise you that they originated in Denver, Colorado. Back in 1948, Bill and Dorothy Harmsen founded the Jolly Rancher Company and chose the name to give the impression of a welcoming and friendly Western company. In addition to candy, back then the Jolly Rancher Company made ice cream and chocolate too.
How many Jolly Rancher flavours are there?
The classic flavours include watermelon, green apple, cherry, grape, and blue raspberry, but Jolly Rancher original flavours were watermelon, apple and Fire Stix.
They then introduced cherry, orange tangerine, lemon, grape, peach, and apple. Eventually, blue raspberry replaced lemon. Over the years there has been some ‘different’ flavours, for example in 2017, Jolly Rancher created a "Hotties" variety bag which included watermelon & cayenne pepper, blue raspberry & sriracha, cherry & habanero, and green apple & ginger!
